My university experience
I came down for an open day and immediately fell in love with the campus and the city itself. I came straight from sixth form in Northampton and managed to get a place in a university run house in Hollingbury, a short walk from the campus itself. In the first year you spend a lot of time in lectures but there is also time to study with friends and alone. You work with different groups quite frequently and are able to establish good friendships with a lot of people.
My course and subject area
I chose to study maths because I had really enjoyed studying it at A-level. I would describe my course and experience of being here as challenging, rewarding and adventurous.
I think the best aspect of the course is the assessments. Brighton sets assessments that allow you to see maths in a different way. They show how maths can be applied in the real world and to really think outside of the box. They let your intelligence shine in a different way.
Brighton’s lecturers really challenge you to be the best that you can. All the staff I have encountered have been superb. They have an open-door policy which means that students can always go to them for help. Staff have supported me all the way through.
My plans for the future
I have a job in Nottingham which will utilise a lot of the skills that university has taught me. The presentations and assessments I have done over the years have built up my confidence and the wide range of modules I have studied have helped make me well rounded and ready to approach anything.
