Our courses focus on the application of mathematics and statistics, and how mathematical techniques can be used to solve problems relevant to modern industry and commerce. Mathematics graduates are sought after for their highly developed analytical skills and capacity to apply their knowledge.

You have the option to take a work-placement year to gain hands-on, paid experience relevant to what you will learn on your course. Our courses are approved to meet the educational requirements of the Chartered Mathematician designation awarded by the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications (IMA).

Core mathematical skills open up a range of employment opportunities in areas such as finance, consultancy, actuarial work, software engineering, project management, medical and industrial statistics. Our graduates are employed in businesses including Lloyds TSB, American Express, Novartis, Orange, HSBC and Mori. Others choose to progress to postgraduate study and research, or teacher training..

Our mathematics and statistics courses received a 94 per cent overall student satisfaction rate in the 2011 National Student Survey. Taught in small classes, you will be supported by staff with extensive mathematics and statistics expertise. Our 'open door' policy means you can visit academic staff when you need to, and you will be assigned a personal tutor for the duration of your studies.

We have excellent computing facilities. You will have access to sophisticated computer software used for modelling, computer algebra and statistical analysis. Based in the Watts building on our Moulsecoomb campus in Brighton, general campus facilities include two restaurants, five cafes, two banks, two Students' Union shops, a sports centre and a nursery.
