Community Network Analysis and ICTs: Bridging and Building Community Ties

The CNA project has a dual focus of community ICT research and development. The project aims to:

  • investigate the affect of network technologies on community network ties
  • explore the uses of network technologies in stimulating social capital, facilitating social cohesion, and supporting community building.

In order to achieve these aims the CNA team have combined and adapted a range of existing research tools and techniques in order to create an innovative participatory research methodology of relevance to community and academic partners alike.

The CNA Project is concerned with communities and the ways that computers and communication technologies (ICTs) can help them to thrive and grow. We want to explore ways of identifying existing ties both within and between communities, and the ways that ICTs can strengthen them. Our approach to this is participatory and human-centred, technically informed but not technology-driven.
