Senior Lecturer at Chelsea School, Dr Gary Brickley recently swum the Channel (9th July 2010) in a 3 man relay team as part of the Mel Wakins Challenge.
The challenge is an annual relay race where teams attempt to complete the English Channel crossing. Gary has almost reached his target of trying to raise £1,000 for the Sussex Air Ambulance Trust.
Gary’s team completed the task with an impressive time of 11 hours 21 minutes. This is the fastest time a special category team (a team with less than or more than 6 swimmers in their team) has completed the challenge so far this year.
Swimming the channel has always been a dream of Gary’s. It is one of the toughest challenges and more people have climbed Everest than have swum the Channel.
On completing the task Gary said “it was an unforgettable experience and we were lucky to cross the channel in almost perfect conditions”.
He added:  “The Sussex Air Ambulance Trust is a great charity and you never know when you or your loved ones could need their vital services”.
