Our Sport Journalism BA(Hons) degree was today re-accredited by the National Council for Training of Journalists (NCTJ). The degree was re-accredited following a visit by NCTJ inspectors Michael Beard (editor, Brighton Argus), Andy Cairns (executive editor, Sky Sports News) and Michelle Patient (Head of Accreditation, NCTJ).

The NCTJ accreditation is the hallmark of excellence in journalism training, providing a world-class standard that is recognised throughout the media industry as the best indication that new recruits have the fundamental skills and knowledge needed to become multi-media journalists and can operate effectively in a busy newsroom.

The University of Brighton is one of only a few universities that offer students the opportunity to gain both the NCTJ Sport Journalism qualification as well as the NCTJ preliminary certificate – a highly recognised professional qualification in journalism and the industry standard pre-entry qualification for trainee journalists.

This qualification provides trainee journalists with the core skills required to gain employment in different sectors of the industry and significantly enhances the career prospects of future sports reporters newspaper reporters and magazine journalists, press photographers and photo journalists. It is truly a qualification that opens doors.
