PGCE Physical Education students spent the day at Heathfield Community School in East Sussex as part of the school’s year seven extended learning day. PGCE Physical Education students were required to research, plan, prepare for, teach and evaluate a one hour school-based collaborative teaching session with classes of approximately 24 year 7 pupils. The day aimed to highlight ways in which schools can include the teaching and learning of ‘alternative’ physical activities within the formal physical education curriculum. The year 7 day intended to promote different types of approaches to curriculum design. The activities which the pupils took part in included the Swiss invasion game of Tchoukball, the Canadian team game of Kinball, and street surfing.
