Teaching

I teach media and communications and library and information studies across our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. My teaching includes

  • Research Methods
  • National Culture and its Institutions
  • Innovation Culture and Technology

Research

My research interests are primarily

  • the role of the public library in society (past research has specifically focused on evaluation studies, ICT and lifelong learning developments)
  • the relationship between research and practice

I am a committee member of the Library and Information Research Group (a CILIP special interest group) and currently the newsletter editor

Consultancy

  • 2006: Sector interaction study for the AHRC on interactions bewteen library and archive researchers and practitioners

Biography

After my first research project into constructions of privacy at CRICT, at Brunel University, I completed an MSc in Information Science at City University, and then conducted two research projects in the area of evaluating ICT programmes in public libraries

After teaching information and communication at Manchester Metropolitan University for a year, I moved to Brighton to take up my current post.
