Hastings
The University of Brighton's campus in Hastings has a particular remit to encourage more people to consider the benefits of studying in an area where progression to higher education has historically been low. Since it opened (as the University Centre Hastings in 2003) it has welcomed over 700 students and produced 360 graduates of all ages. It received national recognition when it was nominated for the Widening Participation Initiative at the Times Higher Education Awards 2009.

Open Access to Knowledge in Hastings
The University Centre Hastings offers free courses for people over 50 years of age through the Open Access to Knowledge programme (OAK).
This programme offers the chance to learn new skills and meet new people on a free, part-time 15-week course. Students may choose their own project on a subject of personal interest.

Sports and exercise in Eastbourne
The Eastbourne campus has a special membership option for people over 55. The programme offers exclusive classes, pool and gym times as well as other health and wellbeing initiatives.

Learning Opportunities
The University of Brighton hosts Learning Opportunities in the South East, which provides information and advice on education, skills and careers from all providers in the region. The service is available to all, and is particularly useful for adults either in work already, or seeking to return to work.
