100 more students for University Centre Hastings

An additional 100 student places have been allocated for University Centre Hastings (UCH), boosting the centre's population to 700.
The centre, the home of the University of Brighton in Hastings, received funding for extra places along with nine other centres that have been developed in the past few years to provide local learning opportunities.

The 100 new places, coming on stream in 2010-11, are in addition to the 205 places for UCH announced in 2003 when funding to the tune of £3.7 million was provided by the Strategic Development Fund for buildings and facilities and formed the original investment to launch UCH.
Professor Julian Crampton, the university’s Vice Chancellor, said: "We are delighted to receive this boost. The university is making substantial contributions to education in Hastings."
As well as offering extra student places the funding will allow UCH to develop new courses increasing both educational choice and opportunity in Hastings as well as attracting students from further afield to the area.
Margaret Wallis, UCH director said: "This is exciting news. These extra places will allow us to continue to develop our existing strengths in business, computing, social science and media with the introduction of several new innovative courses for 2010 entry."
This September saw a record number of students taking up full and part-time University of Brighton courses at UCH. For further information go to www.uch.ac.uk.
