Event 21 December 2009
The university is again co-sponsoring the spectacular Burning the Clocks event in Brighton on 21 December.
The parade and display marks the winter solstice and, according to the organisers, the point where the pendulum stops and "we need all our energy to start it moving again".
The event, on 21 December, is attended by 20,000 people. The parade leaves from the Royal Pavilion and weaves through the streets to Madeira Drive where there is a bonfire and firework display.

"A stately cavalcade leads us and our lanterns to the beach. A mourning party plays deep dark drums as they beat out the ending of time. The lanterns are loaded and taken to the great pyre."
"Once we burn our hopes and fears the heat of the fire brings up the new sun, the pendulum starts, the clocks tick and all is saved. The silence is broken by the cheers and music of the new solar year."
The parade leaves at 6.30pm and the route will be: North Street, Ship Street, Bartholomews, East Street and Madiera Drive. The front of the parade arrives at about 7.15pm and the event finishes at 8pm.
Disabled audience members will have access to the participants viewing area and, on arrival, they should ask stewards for directions.
