One of Britain's leading experts on health and social inequalities, Professor Richard Wilkinson, is giving a lecture on 'Why more equal societies do better' as part of the Brighton Festival Fringe.
The professor of Social Epidemiology at the University of Nottingham has been invited by the University of Brighton's School of Applied Social Science. His lecture, free and open to the public, will be in room C122 at the university's new Checkland building at the Falmer campus, Brighton, on Wednesday, 19 May, starting at 6pm.
Professor Wilkinson, visiting professor at the International Centre for Health and Society at University College London, has published extensively on poverty, inequality and social policy. His most recent publication 'The Spirit Level: Why More Equal Societies Almost Always Do Better', co-authored with Kate Pickett, is currently in the bestseller list.
Dr Mark Erickson, principal lecturer in sociology at the University of Brighton, who is organising this event said: "It is wonderful that Professor Wilkinson is presenting this important lecture. His work on social inequality has been consistently influential over the decades, and his current work is important for academics and the general public alike.
"Anyone with an interest in how to bring about a better society will find this lecture thought provoking and stimulating."
