Brighton cycle for southern Africa

Published 12 August 2011
Event 18 September 2011

A 40-mile cycle ride from Brighton to Hastings campus in aid of the Southern African Scholarship Fund.

Workshop participants

Support South Africa and its neighbouring countries by funding southern African scholars on courses which directly benefit the community when they return home.

The route is suitable for road bikes and you can see a map of the route on the mapmyride.com website.

The Big Lemon www.thebiglemon.com will be providing free transport back to Brighton for participants and their bikes, leaving Hastings Pier at 6pm and Papa John's Pizza www.papajohns.co.uk (01273 60 70 80, delivering until 4am 7 days a week) will be providing free pizza to all participants when they are dropped back outside the Cockcroft Building on Lewes Road around 7pm.

This is the first event of its kind we've run at the university, so it's only on a small scale with roads in normal use. We're expecting 40 to 150 people to take part. We are encouraging people to stop for lunch and to cycle at a leisurely pace, so we suspect people will be quite spread out on the route, finishing anytime between 1pm and 6pm. However, we anticipate most people will finish around 3pm if they stop for an hour for lunch.

Everyone is welcome to take part – the more the merrier! Contact the development team to sign up: development@brighton.ac.uk or 01273 642600 to receive more details.

You can also download our Brighton Cycle for Southern Africa flyer (140k pdf) for more details.
