Working with schools and colleges

Encouraging school pupils into higher education

Our team's work begins with primary school pupils from year 6, where Professor C Gull visits on a regular basis to help explain about universities and higher education.

Older school pupils are invited to the university for the day to take part in a 'Dragon's Den' style exercise. The teenagers are given a business challenge, and then they pitch their business ideas to a panel of dragons from the university's business school.

Young people from local schools, take part in a summer fashion project, which culminates in a fashion show at the university's School of Art, Design and Media at Grand Parade in Brighton.

2012 has seen the development of several mentoring projects in both primary and secondary schools with university students volunteering as mentors.

We also offer specific support for young people who are leaving care and considering university, including a care leaver's bursary. We are proud to have received the Frank Buttle Trust Quality Mark for our commitment to helping care leavers through university. Find out about our support for care leavers.

The university offers a wide choice of activities for schools. Find out more about this and other information for teachers and careers advisers.
