Working with schools and colleges

Encouraging science, technology, engineering and mathematics

Based in the university's Faculty of Science and Engineering, the STEM Sussex team bring together businesses, school pupils and science professionals to develop understanding of careers in these sectors and explore the future needs of employers.

Here are some examples of our work:

Engineering Education Scheme

Year 12 students gain skills and experience by working on a real industrial problem in partnership with a company for 5 to 6 months. The scheme includes a three day residential workshop at the university and culminates in an assessment day for students, teachers and company representatives.

STEM Ambassadors

STEM Ambassadors are committed and enthusiastic volunteers who work with teachers and young people to encourage a greater interest in science, technology, engineering and maths and the career opportunities these subject areas offer. Our ambassadors represent a diverse range of employers and career stages from early career scientists and engineers to retired professionals.
