Do I have to be a student to stay?
No, our halls are let during the summer to members of the public.

How do I make a booking?

Can I stay for more than 7 nights?
Yes, you can check availability online.

Can I book a sole occupancy flat at any of the halls?
Yes, you can book a flat for 6 people at Welkin Halls, Eastbourne. You will have sole occupancy for up to 6 guests in single bedrooms, along with use of the kitchen/lounge and the toilets and bathrooms within these flats.

Do you provide disabled accessible flats?
Yes, we do. Welkin Halls have specially adapted flats; please contact the conference office for further details.

Can more than one person share a room?
No, all our are bedrooms are single, therefore due to health and safety reasons only one person can stay in a bedroom at a time.

Can my children share a room with me?
Children under 3yrs can share a room with an adult, as long as you provide your own cot. Children 4yrs and above must be in a room of there own.

Do children go free?
Children 3yrs and under are free of charge. If your child is 4yrs and above they will have to pay the full rate.

If I am under 18yrs and travelling with out my parents can I stay in Halls?
No, guests aged under 18 will only be accommodated if accompanied by a responsible adult. An adult must be accommodated in the same flat as a group of under 18's.

Will I get a written confirmation of my booking?
Yes you will. Once you have completed all the required information and selected 'confirm', a confirmation email will be sent to you.

What time is Check-in and Check-out?
Room keys are available for collection as follows:

  • Phoenix Halls - From reception between 2pm and 9pm on the day of arrival.
  • Welkin Halls - From reception between 9am and 4pm on the day of arrival.

Check out is by 10am on all sites.

Please note if you are unable to arrive between the check-in times, please contact our staff on site, and please see your confirmation email for sites telephone numbers.

Will our group be accommodated together?
If you are booking for more than one person, we will endeavour to accommodate your group together, however, this cannot be guaranteed. Alternatively, if you book a sole occupancy flat for 6 you will all be together in one flat.

Can I extend my booking once I have arrived at the halls?
Yes, as long as we have the availability. You can check availability online.

If I cancel my booking prior to my arrival, will I get a full refund?
You may cancel your booking online using your unique reference code. The following charges will be incurred for cancellations:

  • Up to 2 weeks prior to arrival - 50% of accommodation costs.
  • Less than 2 weeks prior to arrival - 100% of accommodation costs.

What if I have to cancel my booking once I have started my stay at the university?
If you have already started your stay in university accommodation and wish to leave early, the following reductions to accommodation costs apply:

  • Cancellations made less than 2 weeks before original due departure date: Nil.
  • Cancellations made 2-6 weeks before original due departure date: 50% of cost of remaining time.

Can I bring my car?
Phoenix Halls has free on-site car parking, on a first come first served basis and cannot be pre-booked. Welkin Halls has on street parking only.

Can I smoke in the flats?
No, the university operates a No Smoking policy in all its buildings.

Are there phones located within each of the rooms?
No, however there are pay phones located on site.

Does all your accommodations have lifts?
At our Phoenix Halls 3 out of the 5 blocks have a lift. None of the blocks at Welkin Halls are equipped with lifts; however we do have some flats located on the ground floor.

How far is the halls from the city centre?

Am I able to get public transport to the halls?

  • Phoenix Halls: There are various bus stops outside Phoenix that go towards Lewes or Hove.
  • Welkin Halls: You can catch the number 3 and 4 buses from the Terminus Road bus stop outside Eastbourne train station to Welkin Halls. Alternatively there are taxis located outside Eastbourne train station.

If I'm staying for more than a week, does my linen get changed?
If you are staying for longer than one week, from the second week onwards your linen will be changed and bedrooms will be cleaned once a week.

Can I bring my pet?
No animals are allowed except where they provide assistance to a disabled person. Please notify the university if you wish to bring a guide dog with you.

Are there laundry facilities on site?
Yes, all our machines are self service and coined operated.

Do I need to bring anything with me?
Bed linen and towels are provided as well as cooking utensils/pans, crockery and cutlery. You may wish to bring your own tea towels and dish cloths.

Who will I be sharing with?
During the summer our halls are let to members of the public. Part of the attraction of staying with in the halls is that you will be sharing with a variety of people of different ages, sex and ethnic backgrounds.
