Emphasis is placed on the technical and programming skills you will need to construct these systems, which are often web-based.

Course structure
Increasingly valued by employers, the course incorporates an optional paid placement year.
During this year you will put your specialist skills and knowledge into practice and gain vital experience, giving you a head start in the job market.
You will study in our purpose-built computer labs, and gain practical skills in seminars and workshops.
Our research-informed teaching will support you to become an independent learner, with the ability to develop and apply your knowledge in your dissertation and future career.
Areas of study
Our students don?t need specific computing knowledge before starting the course. The first semester is an introduction to a broad range of topics (including programming, databases and web design) then you?ll make a choice about the area you?d like to specialise in.
To enable you to maximise the potential of your career outside of the UK, you can also choose modern language modules.

A-levels:
BBB. Applicants with only two full A-levels or a double award will be considered on an individual basis.
ND/C (Level 3):
DMM.
International Baccalaureate:
32 points.
QAA-approved access course:
acceptable.
GCSE (minimum grade C):
at least three subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.
Foundation degree/HND
direct to years 2 or 3.
For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.0 overall, with 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in the other elements.
Graduates have become business software developers, web application developers and database designers.
Recent graduates have gone on to work at Accenture, Pepsi, Intel, HP, Vodafone, Arcadia Group, Capgemini and BNP Paribas.
The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2012-13. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study.
The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full- or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take. Different rules apply to research degrees - please contact the Doctoral College for advice.

When on a placement (sandwich) year, students pay a reduced fee in the placement year of this course. This is currently £750 for Home and Island Students and £1,760 for International students. This fee is likely to increase with inflation.
