This course, taught at our Hastings campus, develops your knowledge and skills in a range of commercial computing areas and is particularly relevant to those interested in careers in business management and providing IT solutions.
You will be taught by specialists who will help you understand theory and practice in both disciplines. The course enables you to gain skills in areas such as database and web programming as well as business management skills. This is a fascinating area where the opportunities of career progression for a well-qualified individual are excellent.
During the course you will hone your problem-solving skills as well as becoming adept at research and evaluation. You will become an expert in communication using IT, while building your ability to work as part of a team.

Course structure
The course is delivered through seminars, lectures and practical laboratory classes. Assessment is through coursework assignments and exams. In the second year, you will have the opportunity of carrying out a placement matching an area of personal interest, which your tutor will help you to find.
Areas of study
In the computing strand, the first year of study covers the principles of programming and database design, building core technical skills. In the following years you will learn how to design and build ecommerce solutions to many of today's business problems.
In the business strand, you will study two modules which will introduce you to the underpinning concepts of business during your first year. The following years provide opportunities to develop your understanding and skills for planning and running a successful business.

International Baccalaureate:

Foundation degree/HND
direct to years 2 or 3.
For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.0 overall, with 6.0 in writing and a minimum of 5.5 in the other elements.
Graduates of this award are particularly well equipped to work in the field of technical management or may wish to pursue further study at masters level or a specialist professional qualification.
