Health and Social Care Education PGCert

  • Overview

The Post-Graduate Certificate in Health and Social Care Education offers an opportunity for prospective teachers to experiment with creative, flexible, learner focused modes of teaching and learning embracing the use of photography, drama theatre, simulation, e-learning technologies, facilitation of learning in small groups and the performance, presentation and challenge of learner engagement in large groups. The course also includes skills and knowledge in designing curriculum that are contemporaneous, dynamic and fit for purpose. The educational philosophy of this course supports and promotes the interchangeable roles of teacher and learner with opportunities for students, within small peer groups, to deliver some of the course content on educational theory and teaching and learning strategies in both semester 1 and semester 2.

The course brings together practitioners from many different professional fields, including the professions allied to medicine such as medicine, physiotherapists, podiatrists, occupational therapists and social workers who share a mutual interest in developing educational skills.

This course can also be taken over two years with students attending one module in each year. This would involve attending the morning delivery of the 'Designing, Planning and Strategic Working in Education' module in the first year and the afternoon delivery of the second module 'Developing Expertise in Teaching Learning and Assessment' in year two.

If you wished to complete the full NMC stage 4 registration for Qualified Teacher you could do this in a 3rd year of attendance through a two day workshop and 8 action learning sets.
