Professional Practice BSc(Hons)

  • Overview

    Professional Practice is aimed at health care professionals who work in any care or support setting and who wish to develop and enhance their professional roles. There are opportunities to study a defined pathway route or to develop a pathway of study which suits the individual practitioner. Pathways include:
    - long-term conditions
    - end-of-life care
    - mental health and pyschosocial
    - sexual and reproductive health
    - professional practice.

    The course offers a highly flexible way of fulfilling professional development needs. Each student will agree a Personal Development Plan (PDP) at the beginning of the course. Modules taken may follow one of the above pathways or be chosen from a selection of optional modules available.

    Course structure

    In addition to the pathway and optional modules students undertake a research module and complete the dissertation. Modules can be taken from any pathway to ensure that students complete 120 credits for the BSc(Hons) award.

    Diploma in Professional Practice
    Students who do not have level 2 credits will be able to undertake a number of taught modules at level 2. Work-based learning and Accreditation of Prior Experiential Learning (APEL) are other options available. All students will be registered for the award of BSc (Hons) Professional Practice. Exit with a Diploma (120 level 2 credits) will be possible.

    The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2012-13. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study.

    The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full- or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take. Different rules apply to research degrees - please contact the Doctoral College for advice.
