    Along with Stage Two experience, it contributes to the practical training requirements of the Post Graduate Diploma in Management, Practice and Law in Architecture RIBA Part 3.

    About the course

    This unit is taken after the completion of the BA (Hons) in Architecture Part 1 or equivalent and is related to the period of practical training referred as`Stage One experience, or the initial twelve months of the Professional Experience and Development Record (PEDR). There is a service charge of #200.00 for enrolment as a year-out student. This fee is payable once by each student regardless of the length of their year out engagement up to a maximum of 24 months.

  • Course content

    Course structure

    This unit of study is undertaken during one academic year and relates to that period of practical experience in architecture. It is primarily self-directed with the recall sessions taking place in October and June. The PEDRs are signed at quarterly intervals on completion of the relevant work experience period which will vary from student to student. The course can be extended to cover 2 years of professional experience.

    Professional Practice Architectural Practice and other forms of professional experience permitted to be included under PEDR guidance.

    Syllabus

    The syllabus comprises the following areas of professional study:
    Context for Practice
    Management of Architecture
    Management of Construction
    Practice Management
    Business Administration

    The coverage of these issues is reviewed in the individual student's PEDRs. The two recall session cover the following subject areas:
    1. Completion of PEDRs, strategies for employment and career progression.
    2. Review of different forms of professional experience and activities during the year-out.

  • Fees and costs

    The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2013-14. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and may be subject to small increases, in line with inflation.

    The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full- or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take.

    What's included in the fee?

    When costs such as health or criminal record checks, field trips or use of specialist materials are incurred as a mandatory requirement of the course they are included in your tuition fee.

    You may incur additional costs depending on the optional modules or activities you choose. The cost of optional activities is not included in your tuition fee and you will need to meet this cost in addition to your fees. You can also make the most of the location, and play volleyball, basketball and windsurfing down by the beach.
