About the course
Education (Higher Education) MA is for staff teaching on higher education courses.
The course will allow you to gain an in depth and critical understanding of pedagogical theory and its application to learning and teaching within higher education.
The course will allow you to demonstrate a depth of knowledge and reflection on a range of academic activities within the context of higher education.

For non-native speakers of English:
IELTS 6.5 overall and 6.0 in writing.
Other:
you will need to complete a 60 credit PGCertifcate (or equivalent) before you can begin the MA.
Degree and/or experience:
a good honours degree or equivalent and you must be working in a relevant professional role.

Course structure
The course has been designed to offer maximum flexibility. You can select a range of modules tailored to your own professional development needs. The only compulsory modules are the research methods module and the final project/dissertation.
The course typically takes two-three years of part-time study to complete up to a maximum of six years. You can progress at the rate that suits you. Each 20 credit module requires a total of around six hours per week of study which is made up of reading, work based learning and reflective practice. You can maintain contact online in addition to attendance at tutor-led sessions.
Areas of study
Modules are offered in a variety of formats, including as: intensive two-day workshops; in blended learning modules, combining face-to-face sessions with online activities and support; and as primarily self-guided independent study with guidance from staff.
Assessment tasks will support you practically and intellectually to develop and improve the work you already do as an academic, for example when designing modules or writing academic health reports.

The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2012-13. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and may be subject to small increases, in line with inflation.
The tuition fee you have to pay depends on a number of factors including the kind of course you take, and whether you study full- or part-time. If you are studying part-time you will normally be charged on a pro rata basis depending on the number of modules you take.
What's included in the fee?
When costs such as health or criminal record checks, field trips or use of specialist materials are incurred as a mandatory requirement of the course they are included in your tuition fee.
You may incur additional costs depending on the optional modules or activities you choose. The cost of optional activities is not included in your tuition fee and you will need to meet this cost in addition to your fees. Sports
Whether you take your sport seriously or just want to keep fit, Brighton offers all kinds of sports opportunities and facilities, on and off campus. You can also make the most of the location, and play volleyball, basketball and windsurfing down by the beach. The seafront is also the finishing point for the famous London – Brighton bicycle ride and the quirky veteran car run.
The course enables you to build on continuing professional development (CPD) and other courses you may have taken, such as the PG Certificate in Learning and Teaching in HE, and forms part of the CPD framework being developed by the university which will be accredited by the Higher Education Academy (HEA).
There are opportunities to progress to doctoral research.
