    About the course

    Graphic Communication offers a comprehensive range of practical design modules delivered by leading graphic design practitioners. Based at Sussex Coast College Hastings you can choose to specialise in print or web in year 2. Students have recently won numerous international design awards with projects for Toni & Guy, Kenzo, Howies, Brylcream, Tetley Tea, D&AD, Buckingham Palace, Grazia magazine and Channel 4's Skins.

    UCAS tariff:
    120 points, from a minimum of one 6-unit qualification in G/VCE Art and Design or BTEC National Awards in Art and Design. Level 3 Key Skills and General Studies excluded.

    International Baccalaureate:
    individual assessment.

    QAA-approved access course:
    acceptable; subject-specific units.

    GCSE (minimum grade C):
    at least three subjects including English language and mathematics or a science.

    For non-native speakers of English:
    IELTS 6.0 overall, 6.0 in writing.

    Other:
    Art ad Design foundation diploma. Intervew and portfolio review. Accredited prior learning. Accredited prior experience.

  • Course content

    Course structure

    Challenging and intensive, this course also allows you to undertake additional work to support your studies. Professional practice is a key feature of the course with all students taking work experience in year 2. Placements usually take place in Hastings, Brighton or London but have also taken place overseas in New York and Japan.

    You will also benefit from the college's membership with Design & Art Direction (D&AD), our close links with the Young Creative Network (YCN) and connections with professional design consultancies in Hastings, Brighton and London.

    Areas of study

    You will cover a broad introduction to graphic communication in year 1 of the course with modules such as Ideas Generation, Typography, Design for Web and Communicating with Images (which includes illustration), Cultural and Critical Studies and an exciting range of related workshops. Year 2 offers the opportunity to develop individual specialisms, participate in design competitions and develop business awareness and work-related skills through projects and work experience. You will be encouraged throughout both years to develop outcomes that demonstrate your appreciation and skills using both traditional/paper-based and computer-orientated methodology and mediums.

  • Fees and costs

    The fees listed here are for full-time courses beginning in the academic year 2012-13. Further tuition fees are payable for each subsequent year of study and may be subject to small increases, in line with inflation.
