Cupp and Active student are beginning to organise placements for the Community Participation and Development module for University of Brighton students for the coming academic year. Students will be looking to undertake a volunteering role/ community based placement with organisations which could be regular and ongoing or a fixed project of 50 hours.
Student volunteers and placement students aim to make a significant contribution to organisations and create ‘added value’, whilst gaining real world experience and new skills, and putting current skills learned on their degree and in other arenas into practice. Most students are on social science, language or environment and technology degrees and project activities are undertaken between October 2011 and May 2012.
Examples of previous student volunteering/ community based placements:
- Producing a short film about or with a local community group
- Volunteering as a teaching assistant or student mentor
- Acting as a befriender to an individual with particular needs
- Organising a fundraising event for a local charity
- Designing a website or information system
- Writing publicity materials or editing a newsletter
- Volunteering at a local conservation/garden project
If you feel your organisation could benefit from a student or a group of students joining you on a particular project or in a specific role we can advertise the opportunity for you.

Cupp organises placements in partnership with the university’s volunteer service, Active Student. Active Student supports both student volunteers -students who volunteer in addition to their degree, placement students and students who are undertaking a community based placement as part of their degree.
