A one day event organised by students for students
University of Brighton, Falmer site
Are you interested in finding out how you can make a difference in your world?
This is a one day event which will leave you with tangible skills and useful advice on how to make a difference - big or small.
The day is organised by students for students interested in learning to make a difference in their communities.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN ON THE DAY?
The day will involve meeting with students past and present who are undertaking projects that make a difference from small local ideas to big international projects. We will finish the day with something to eat and drink before watching the brand new film R/Evolution looking at the emerging passion of young people as they call on their generation to wake up and take responsibility for steering the world in a more stable direction.
Not only will the day give you the opportunity to meet with other students interested in making a difference but it will also provide you with practical skills. These sessions will be led by both current and past students in the following areas:
- Turning an idea into reality
- Planning a campaign
- Learning through experience – student case studies
WHAT ABOUT AFTERWARDS?
The best part of a motivating day - leaving feeling you can achieve anything. The worst part - not knowing how to get started. We’ll send you off with information on how you can get started on your own project and will offer to keep you linked with everyone who attends the day as well as those running it. We’ll update the facebook site and these webpages with useful information and contact details of who to get in touch with if you want to get an idea off the ground.
University of Brighton students who attend the day will be able to bid for funds to run a project via the support of the alumni Springboard grants programme and will be supported in this process by staff in Cupp (Community University Partnership Programme).

The day is entirely free of charge, including lunch so what’s stopping you signing up now? We are limited to 60 places on the day and will take bookings on a first come, first serve basis so sign up now! Please fill in a booking form if you would like to attend.
Do you want to attend this exciting event, but don’t live in Brighton? The NCCPE have joined forces with Cupp to provide two travel bursaries (up to £125 each) for students wanting to attend this student conference. The students receiving bursaries will be asked to provide a short article about the event for people who didn’t make it for use on the Cupp and NCCPE websites, as well as being invited to join the NCCPE public engagement ambassadors scheme.

Making your way to Falmer
Due to the severe shortage of parking spaces on the Falmer site, we recommend that delegates travel to the event by public transport if at all possible.

The Falmer campus is approximately 7 km from Brighton city centre. Cycle lanes run from Falmer to the city centre. Falmer railway station is a short walk, Moulsecoomb is one stop away and Brighton mainline station three. There is a frequent bus service into central Brighton.
Car parking on campus is limited and a parking permit is required to park on the site. Permits are only given to drivers who can demonstrate that car travel is essential. A free shuttle bus operates from Varley, and a Park and Ride scheme from Moulsecoomb.
By bike
- Cycle lanes run from the city centre along the A270 Lewes Road to Falmer. Cycle stands monitored by CCTV are provided on site.
By bus
- The 25, 25A and 25C connect the Falmer campus with the centre of Brighton. The 25A then goes on to Hove and Portslade. The 25C links Falmer with east Brighton including Kemptown, the Royal Sussex hospital and the Marina.
- Visit the Brighton and Hove Company website for timetables and more on special ticket deals for students.
By train
- There are up to four trains an hour from Moulsecoomb to Falmer (4 minutes journey time), two an hour direct to Eastbourne (35 minutes journey time) and regular direct and connecting services to Hastings (70 minutes average journey time).
- Visit the National Rail Enquiries website for timetables and passenger information.
- Due to construction work, access for wheelchair access will no longer be available from the platform adjacent to the university, i.e. Brighton bound. Instead, a free taxi pick-up and drop-off service will now operate from the station side, i.e. Lewes bound. You can find out more about temporary disabled access to Falmer here.
Park and Ride
- There is a Park and Ride service from Moulsecoomb to the Falmer campus. The Park and Ride spaces are marked with a thick blue line and can be found in the Watts north car park.
By car
- From the A23:
At the Mill Road roundabout, as you approach Brighton take the left-hand lane signposted Newhaven, Lewes (A27). At the mini roundabout take the 2nd exit (straight over). At the next mini roundabout take the 2nd exit (right) onto the A27 eastbound. Take the exit signposted universities and Falmer (passing the University of Sussex on the left) and turn right at the roundabout. Go over the flyover, straight on at the next roundabout and then turn first right down Village Way.
- From the A27 eastbound:
Follow the directions above from point 2, bearing in mind you are already on the A27 heading towards Lewes.
- From the A27 westbound:
Take the slip road signposted Falmer Rottingdean and Universities (B2124) and at the roundabout, turn left. Turn first right down Village Way.
