Santander Student Awards for Community Engagement and Volunteering

Five awards worth £1,000 each, funded by the Santander Group, will be available to recognise outstanding contributions in the fields of community engagement and volunteering by current University of Brighton students.

Reasons for nomination could include active involvement in community life, volunteering within or outside the University, acts of kindness or good neighbourliness. Students’ Union activity qualifies under this scheme.

A requirement for these awards is that the prize be split evenly between the student and the community body hosting the activity.

Nominations are sought from local residents or the organisations students are involved in. Individuals, groups of students or student households are eligible for nomination.

Nominations should be made by using the form below and include details of a student’s project, its impact, their performance and contribution and on its long term effects. Criteria will be kept reasonably open in recognition of the different value that can be attached to originality, commitment, academic excellence and community impact.

Selection Process

Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of academic and administrative staff of the University of Brighton. The Selection Panel will comprise:

The Director of Finance Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research)
The Dean of one of the faculties
The Head of one of the academic schools
The Head of Economic & Social Engagement
A Sabbatical Officer from the Students’ Union
A representative from Santander

In addition to the five awards of £1,000, there will be a number of highly commended statuses awarded.
