The School of Education is one of the largest providers of education and training for student teachers, teachers and other learning and development professionals in the country. We are based at the university's Falmer campus, just outside Brighton.
We offer a comprehensive range of certificate, foundation degree, honours degree, PGCE, masters degree, PhD and EdD (Doctorate in Education) programmes. We offer part-time and full time study, as well as a range of work-based programmes.
The school enjoys a well-established reputation for the high quality of its work. For example, our primary education provision has the highest quality rating (grade A) and the overall management and quality assurance of our secondary courses was graded as 'very good' in recent Ofsted inspections. Our foundation degrees in youth-work and early years care and education are endorsed by the National Youth Agency and Sure Start.
The distinctive nature of the school's work is shaped both by the nature of research undertaken and its emphasis on partnerships. Almost all our work is carried out in partnership with others, both within and beyond the university, and we value the ways in which our partners shape and support our courses. We pride ourselves on our innovative and forward-looking philosophy and are active and responsive in promoting new developments.
I hope that this brief introduction has provided a flavour of our school. The quality of our diverse and varied provision, a commitment to high quality learning at all levels and our capacity for innovation ensures that we sustain our reputation within a regional, national and international perspective.
