Voices and Visions Conference Workshops

Poetry workshop - Gareth Calway

Gareth will work with the poetry form of haiku to capture, create and distil an expression of what ‘real education’ is for us in 2010 and beyond. And if it comes out better in another form – a limerick? A monologue? A dialogue between teacher and pupil. A whole novel …that’s fine too.

About Gareth Calway

Gareth Calway is a teacher, writer, sports and education journalist, playwright and currently the official poet in residence at Bristol City Football Club. Having taught in schools for 27 years, his time in the classroom produced the inspiration for his one-man show at the Edinburgh Festival and his novel, ‘River Deep Mountain High’ about modern comprehensives.

Gareth will work with the poetry form of haiku to capture, create and distil an expression of what ‘real education’ is for us in 2010 and beyond. And if it comes out better in another form – a limerick? A monologue? A dialogue between teacher and pupil. A whole novel …that’s fine too.

Gareth has been appointed ‘official poet’  of the Voices and Visions Conference and will be joining the learning conversations and keynote speakers throughout the day, capturing the atmosphere, activity and reflections in his own style.
