From the outside EYPS can feel like a daunting process, but at Brighton you really don’t need to worry. Right from the start the tutors have been great at breaking the process down, providing high quality seminars and offering support. We have a lovely community of practitioners on the pathway too and I’m sure this has everything to do with the passion staff show for children and the EYPS in general.

Having the option of completing the validation pathway locally gave me the opportunity to pull together all of my qualifications and experience into one professionally recognised qualification. All of this has validated my experience as a man in the early years and helped to consolidate my knowledge, whilst also providing a springboard into a local community of early years professionals which provides exciting opportunities for the future.

My experience at the Brighton University was exciting. I had great lecturers who were ready to go through the EYPS process with me. Lectures and experiences were brought to me at a convenient and appropriate time. My mentor was always accessible to give support and direct me towards achieving the right experience for my practice and essays. Since achieving this status, it has built my self esteem and increased my confidence in carrying out my duties as a supervisor. Through my achievement, some of my colleagues are now interested in getting their foundation degree and then EYPS.

I confess that when I began on the short pathway to Early Years Professional Status, as a Childminder, I had my concerns as to whether it was an achievable goal. However, the team at the University were fantastic, tailoring the course to meet my needs. I found the tutors inspiring and the mentor support invaluable, just having someone else believe in you is incredibly motivating. I have gained confidence, not only in my own abilities, but also in Childminding as a profession and doing EYPS has helped me to develop my career.

Former EYPS candidate – currently EYPS assessor at the University of Brighton
Achieving my EYPS at the University of Brighton has broadened my professional role significantly, from owner/manager of a pre-school to that of a leader who strives to inspire, motivate and support other practitioners in giving children under the age of five the best possible start in life.
Janet Hornsby,
Former EYPS candidate - currently EYPS assessor at the University of Brighton
I decided 18 months ago to undertake the EYPS process as I wanted to have the best possible qualifications under my belt as I started my new school. I already have a BA an MA and an AMI Montessori Diploma but felt that the EYPS would be a valuable process to go through and a new challenge. In particular I thought that it would be a good way of ensuring I was fully aware of best practice in relation to Early Years provision and testing myself to see if I knew the EYFS inside out. The core team of trainers at Brighton University was exceptionally strong. I felt that the key lectures and discussions prepared me very well for the assessment process, as well as giving me time for wider and deeper discussion around the various topics.

I have had a fantastic experience as an EYP candidate at the University of Brighton. The staff are totally on the ball and it was a pleasure to attend the training sessions they ran. I have rarely attending training sessions that are as productive. Every minute was packed with useful information - this sounds like an exaggeration but it is really how I felt. The staff were not just very good at their subject, they were also extremely personable and went out of their way to make me feel comfortable.”Paul Pillai, EYP 2011
