Programme overview

This programme is designed for practising and aspiring leaders who wish to deepen their understanding of, and approaches to, management. It will enable you to maximise your time and approach in order to get the best out of other people and link these activities to performance management and the School Improvement Plan. This programme will enable you to:

  • Gain up-to-date knowledge about school effectiveness
  • Explore key policies and strategies that impact on the role and practices of educational leadership and management
  • Develop frameworks for understanding aspects of organisational culture and the change management process
  • Consider issues surrounding a range of performance management measures as applied to strategic management and leadership Increase your confidence and effectiveness in leading and developing others
  • Develop your capacity for masters level study
  • Develop lasting support networks with other professionals and the university's postgraduate community
  • Gain credits towards an MA Education

Programme Structure

This one-year, part-time programme is led by specialists from the University of Brighton and includes regular contact with tutors through taught sessions, on-line learning and face-to-face tutorials. It has a flexible framework that combines academic study with work-based learning and action research, and enables you to combine day-to-day professional activity with masters level thinking and research.

Areas of study

The programme consists of two main components: developing knowledge of the theoretical basis of contemporary approaches to strategic management and practical application of this learning through exploration of the link between focussed strategic thinking and output successes in the education sector.

Outcomes

On completion of this programme you can anticipate enhanced practice and improved ability to implement effective improvement strategies in your school. You can also achieve the award of a PGCert or gain credits toward an MA in Education.
