Why choose our courses?

Flexible to fit round your working life

Our flexible programmes are designed to fit around your working life and boost your career prospects. In fact, your ongoing work experience makes up a significant part of your learning.

Best practice in your workplace

From early years right through to adulthood, our programmes will ensure that you are using best practice in your work and will provide you with an opportunity to share your experiences with other practitioners and visit different work settings.

Working in partnership

Our programmes are developed in partnership with local employers and are endorsed by national bodies such as the Children’s Workforce Development Council and SkillsActive. Our youth work programmes have been given a distinction rating by the National Youth Agency.

Help with getting back in to study

You may be nervous about returning to study. We understand this and will do everything we can to help:

  • All of our work-based degrees start with a study skills module which will help you to make the most of your studies
  • Personal tutors and mentors will support you both at the university and in your workplace
  • Our ICT staff will help you get the most from our computer facilities
  • Regular discussion groups and forums allow you to share issues with other students

Career prospects and progression

A foundation degree can be the start of a convenient part-time route to a full honours degree. This requires a further one or two years part-time study after which you may be eligible to progress on to further study leading to  additional professional recognition (eg Qualified Teacher Status or Early Years Professional Status).

Funding

In some cases funding is available from local authorities and employers to cover all or part of the fees. This varies from course to course - our support team will be happy to advise you.
