I am an international student from Kazakhstan and have recently graduated from Education BA (Hons) at the University of Brighton. I chose to study my degree at the School of Education because it has an excellent reputation. It is a genuinely international university, and the course offered a diverse learning experience. I truly believe that accepting the offer to study at Brighton was the best decision I have ever made.
Sense of belonging
Throughout my studies I felt a sense of belonging and was made to feel very welcome at the School of Education. I learnt a lot and feel that it was a time that challenged my expectations. I was able to see the bigger picture of the western educational system by experiencing it from the inside and I found that I was focused not only on the final outcome of the course, but also on the journey that got me there.
Developing my skills
The work placement that was part of the course played a huge part in developing my skills. As well as lectures and seminars, these placement-based learning experiences provided an ideal opportunity for me to bridge the gap between theory and practice, and foster knowledge and professional growth. After completing my placement I became more focused on my studies and future career direction.
I think the tutorial system is very important and useful, especially for international students, as they need more support and guidance. I am very grateful to my course tutors who were so supportive, encouraging and patient.
Personal and professional development
Throughout the three years of study I have become more mature and confident; these qualities definitely have helped me to excel in my personal and professional development. The positive and encouraging atmosphere of the School of Education motivated me to learn more and try new learning opportunities.
By studying for a degree in a different country, I felt like a worthy citizen when I came back to Kazakhstan and experienced the strong emotions; patriotism, responsibility, challenge and hope.
Goals for the future
My main goal for the future is to contribute the fruits of my learning experience to the development and welfare of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the field of education management.
