The Education Research Centre offers a range of research study programmes through our research student division.

Study programmes

MPhil/PhD

Our MPhil/PhD programme is for experienced practising professionals responsible for education in organisations and educational institutions.

Duration

MPhil: Full-time 18 months (max 3 years) or part-time 30 months (max 4 years). PhD: Full-time 2 years (max 5 years) or part-time 3 years (max 6 years).

Entry Requirements

MPhil: A first or second class honours degree or equivalent. Appropriate research or professional experience at postgraduate level.

PhD: A recognised and relevant Masters degree. Substantial postgraduate research or professional experience, including published/written work.

 

Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD)

Our Professional Doctorate in Education (EdD) research study programme is for experienced, practising education professionals and focuses on advancing professional knowledge in practice.

Duration

Part-time, 5 years.

Entry Requirements

An MA in education or related discipline and a minimum of four years professional experience.

Student Support

We offer a range of seminars, guest lectures, and student-based research and seminar programmes, and maintain dedicated accommodation for research students with up-to-date computer and internet facilities. Research students are encouraged to play an active role in faculty research programmes, conferences and other research initiatives. They are also offered a dedicated doctoral-level course in research methods, and access to lectures on key issues in educational methods and practice.
