About the faculty

The Faculty of Education and Sport is one of the largest within the university, catering for over 4,000 students and around 300 members of staff. The faculty is made up of two teaching schools and two associated departments. It is at the leading edge of many national developments in its specialist subjects.

Together with a strong commitment to continuous improvement and innovation, the faculty is a dynamic and creative place to study and work. For more information about the schools and departments in the faculty please follow the links below:

The faculty is recognised for the excellence of its teaching. The Times newspaper ranked it as one of the highest-rated teacher training providers in the country and it received high scores in the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE) QAA subject reviews.

The faculty's international profile is developing. We provide courses for students from over 70 countries. The Study Abroad Office, based in the faculty, runs programs with The University Studies Abroad Consortium and Illinois State University.

Faculty and school locations

The faculty office is situated at Falmer. The schools are situated on one site in Brighton (Falmer) and two in Eastbourne (Hillbrow and Darley Road).

Support facilities include purpose-built IT suites, a curriculum centre, gymnasium and sports laboratories. A major redevelopment has resulted in the completion of new lecture theatres, a drama studio, a state-of-the-art sports centre (with a floodlit artificial turf pitch), libraries, refectories and halls of residences.
