Welcome
Welcome to the ENSOAfrica project website. ENSOAfrica is funded by the Leverhulme Trust and aims to examine societal responses to El NiƱo-related climate extremes in Madagascar, Malawi and KwaZulu-Natal during the 19th century using documentary sources.
The project is a collaboration between the universities of Brighton, Nottingham and Sussex (UK) and Hedmark University College (Norway), and runs from March 2010 to August 2013.
On this website you will find details of the project aims and objectives, background and methodology, contact details for the project team, together with the main documentary archives in which data collection will take place.
The website will be expanded as the research progresses to include key results for each of the three case study areas. For further information, please do not hesitate to contact the project director, Prof. David Nash.
