Facts and figures
The university gathers and publishes a range of equalities monitoring information about its students and staff, including on age, disability, gender and race.
We gather this data both so that we can understand the make-up of out student and staff populations, and to help us identify whether there are any differences in the experiences of people from different groups - for example, in relation to recruitment and selection of staff and students, student achievement and completion rates and staff grading and turnover rates. This in turn helps us to effectively prioritise and target our equality-related activities. The collection and analysis of this information also helps us to meet our requirements under the public sector Equality Duty, which forms part of the Equality Act (2010).
We are currently looking into extending the monitoring data that we gather for our staff and students, and expect to start collecting data on the religion or belief and sexual orientation of our staff during the 2012/13 academic year.
With the exception of disability data, which may be used to help us ensure that we provide appropriate reasonable adjustments for individuals, equalities monitoring data is only ever used for the purpose of anonymous monitoring. Individual students and members of staff cannot be identified in our monitoring reports.
We are also required to send anonymous equalities monitoring information annually to the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA). This data does not include any names or contact details.
The monitoring reports provided below are for the most recent reporting year only. Monitoring reports from previous years are available on request, please contact us.
