University applies for Athena SWAN bronze award
December 2012

The university is a member of Athena SWAN, which recognises and encourages good practice in relation to the employment of female academics working in science, technology, engineering, mathematics and medicine (STEMM) subjects within higher education. We have recently put in an application for the Athena SWAN university bronze award, and we expect to hear back from Athena SWAN regarding whether or not we have been successful in this application in April 2013.


Annual staffing review 2011/12 published

The university’s Annual Staffing Review for 2011/2012, which includes this year’s equal opportunities monitoring data on age, disability, gender and race, has now been published


Equality Update for staff

We have published an Equality Update newsletter for staff that provides an overview of some of the equality projects that we are currently working on. The newsletter is available to view as a pdf file on staffcentral, with other formats available on request. Please contact us to discuss your requirements.


University publishes final Equality Objectives 2012-16
October 2012

The Board of Governors has approved five new Equality Objectives for the university. These outline our institutional strategy for equality development over the next four years. They have been based on a mixture of sector research, institutional data and also the feedback we received as part of our recent consultation. University of Brighton takes part in Black History Month
October 2012

Black History Month happens every year in October and aims to educate, highlight and celebrate the achievements, history and culture of people of African and Caribbean descent. University Equality Objectives Consultation update
June 2012

Thanks to everyone who contributed to our recent online consultation to inform the development of the university's Equality Objectives. Responses received are now being compiled into a report, which will be published on the website later in the summer.


University publishes draft Equality Objectives
March 2012

The university has published a draft version of its new Equality Objectives.  The Equality Objectives focus on some of the key strategic areas for the development of equality and diversity for the next 4 years, outlining the university’s continued ambition to provide a fair and inclusive environment for all.  A detailed consultation regarding the objectives is scheduled for May 2012 and, together with the new Strategic Plan, this will inform a final version of the objectives for 1st September 2012.


Student Equalities Report 2010/2011 published
January 2012

The university’s annual Student Equalities Report 2010/11, has now been published.  This contains student monitoring data relating to key university processes and provides a snapshot of the student experience across different student groups.
