Committed to equality of opportunity and fair treatment for all.
Learning and teaching
The University of Brighton prides itself on its expertise for Learning and Teaching, and in its promotion of an inclusive study environment. By taking an inclusive approach, the university aims to support all groups of students and staff, rather than isolating particular demographics or experiences.
In practice, this means regularly reviewing our curriculum so that it reflects the diversity of each academic discipline, and ensuring that teaching is delivered in an accessible and engaging manner. It also means ensuring that student learning is assessed fairly and consistently, in a manner free from personal bias. The development of equality and diversity practices may also involve considering the career development of staff who teach, to ensure that any barriers that could be experienced by particular groups are removed.
To achieve these aims, the Equality and Diversity Advisers work with other university departments such as the Centre for Learning and Teaching, Registry’s Academic Standards team and individual schools and faculties.
