Grace Robertson: A Sympathetic Eye £15.00

Intorduction by Colin Ford. Essay by Ian Jeffrey
Grace Robertson was born in Manchester in 1930. Between the ages of 19 and 27 she worked as a freelance photojournalist contributing often to publications such as Picture Post. She went on to work freelance for Life magazine. The style she developed in the early 1950’s was both profuse and energetic and constituted of sets and series rather than of the composed single pictures which had been photojournalism’s stock in trade up to then. Her interest in documenting the lives of working women in the 1950’s also singles her out as a pioneer and precursor. Her book "A Sympathetic Eye" offers a fascinating look at a selection of Grace Robertson’s works spanning from 1948 to 2001.

Together with essays from Designers, Theorists and Professors this richly illustrated book explores for the first time the breadth and depth of work created in the period 1992 – 2002 by the Swiss artist.

Circumstantial Evidence: Texts by Terry Atkinson, John Goto, David Green and Peter Seddon £7.50

This catalogue presents the works of three important contemporary artists; Atkinson, Goto and Doherty. The "big theme" of their collected works rests in the evidence that might exist for the continuing vitality in contemporary art practice for a concern with history and modes of public discourse, which were once vital ingredients of an academic tradition in "History Painting". Illustrated works included in this publication along with its accompanying essays expound this theme.
