Brighton Graphic Design Students win pitch to
re-brand visions
|
| |
visions, the Brighton
based festival of visual performance has commissioned two final year
graphic design students from the University of Brighton to re-brand
its corporate ID.
visions festival presents UK premieres by international companies,
showcasing extraordinary new performances mixing modern technologies
and elements from animated theatre, dance and visual art.
visions brief was to produce a flexible new corporate ID that reflected
the experimental nature of the festival and would appeal to a wide
range of audiences. visions was keen to work with undergraduates,
as the University of Brighton is a key supporter of the festival.
The departments most promising designers and illustrators were
asked to pitch to the Director and Marketing Director of visions.
Dawn Parsonage and Rachel Spencers quirky and original ideas
won them the contract.
They created the logo based on a 3D plastic mould of the letter V.
The mould can be used to convey the brand in a number of ways, for
example: back-lit to create a shadow on an exhibiton wall; photographed
for stationery; or even made into a jelly V to promote visions childrens
events!
Lawrence Zeegen, Subject Leader of Graphic Design & Illustration
explains the importance to his students working on live projects;
"Working on real projects is a very important aspect of what
we do on the BA (Hons) Graphic Design course at the University of
Brighton. The opportunity for students to undertake a commercial project,
with all the considerations that must be taken into account, is a
vital part of their education as a graphic designer. The re-branding
of visions was the perfect project. The clients were keen to allow
students creative freedom coupled with the need to communicate their
new mission statement. From initial briefings to presentations the
students worked hard to produce a varied range of innovative solutions.
On hand were the staff team, with years of top flight experience to
offer advice and road test the work being presented. The final decision
was a tough one, as all of the work was of a high standard. The visions
team were supportive, ambitious, realistic yet creative and the project
has been a real asset to the course. We look forward to working with
visions again in the future!"
Dawn Parsonage and Rachel Spencer describe their experience working
with real clients;
"visions has been a great experience. It is always good to work
on a live brief while a student, especially one so diverse and of
such scale, with a client that is open to innovative concepts."
visions plans to commission a commercial designer to produce print
for festival events. It is hoped that Dawn and Rachel can continue
to gain experience on a work placement with the appointed design agency.
