Globalisation and Representation

(Globalisation and its Discontents 3)

March 12-13 2005 Brighton, UK

How to Register

The deadline for the submission of papers is now past. Full registrations for the conference are, therefore, no longer being accepted. It is, however, possible to attend the conference without delivering a paper. There are a limited number of such places available. To secure a place at the event, you should do the following:

Print off the Registration Form, fill it in, include a cheque for your registration fee, and send it to:

Verity Clarkson, Conference Administrator, 'Global Representations', Faculty of Arts and Architecture, School of Historical and Critical Studies, University of Brighton, 10-11, Pavilion Parade, Brighton, UK, BN2 1RA.

You can contact the Administrator on (0)1273 643089, or via v.clarkson@brighton.ac.uk

REGISTRATION

We will endeavour to send your registration documents, the conference pack, and your entry ticket by post in advance, once your cheque or payment has cleared. Those submitting their registration for attendance late may pick up their documents from the Registration Desk in the Grand Parade foyer from 9.00 on Saturday 12th March.

In the case of full conference participants, registration of your arrival and receipt of any late documentation commences at the conference venue, Grand parade foyer, from 4pm on Friday 11th March. There will be an initial reception for full participants to meet at 7pm on Friday evening (details to follow). You will receive your documentation by post, and can pick up your conference pack on registering your arrival on Friday evening. The Registration Desk will be open from 9.00 on both Saturday and Sunday.

CONFERENCE FEES

For those attending the conference who are not giving papers and submitting them for publication, the fee for attendance is as follows:

  • for two day ticket: £20,
  • for Saturday ticket: £12,
  • for Sunday ticket: £12.

Please write in the appropriate amount on the Registration Form, and indicate on which day you wish to attend, if appropriate. The conference programme and timetable, with an abstract of the papers and details of the participants, will be available on this web site from early February.

These rates do not cover the cost of any meals or beveridges or accommodation. There will be a coffee and snack bar open throughout the event, and lunches are available to be purchased on both days from the on-site refectory. If you would like to have lunch, however, you will need to indicate that intention on your Registration Form. Please print 'LUNCH' prominently at the top of the form.

(The cost of lunches and refreshments for full conference participants have been included in their registration fee.)

ACCOMMODATION

Participants are urged to make arrangements to stay in Brighton on the eve of the conference (the evening of Friday 11th March). They are also encouraged to consider staying on Sunday night (13th March) to maximise the opportunity for informal discussion and debate. Brighton, located on the south coast of the UK, is very well provisioned for the accommodation of visitors. In addition to 5*, 4*, 3* and 2* hotels (within 10 minutes walk of the conference site (see the accommodation page)), there are innumerable 'bed-and-breakfast' establishments surrounding the University location with accommodation from £18 or £20 per night. Because the city is a popular and historic resort town, for daytrippers, for week-end holidaymakers and for academic and commercial conference venues, participants are urged to make their accommodation arrangements as soon as possible, and preferably at the time of registration.

Neither the University nor the conference organisers can accept responsibility, or make arrangements, for accommodation. The University does provide a list of recommended hotels (see the accommodation page) which have special, agreed rates for University-related visits (you must declare your University-related business at the time of registration to take advantage of these rates, and the rates may change after their publication on this site). Details of additional accommodation provision in the city can be sought from the Brighton & Hove City Council Accommodation Guide, or from its web site at www.visitbrighton.com
