Travelling to Brighton, UK

From overseas by air:

to London Heathrow > Piccadilly Line underground train to London Victoria Station (change to Victoria Line at Hammersmith or Earls Court stations) > main line train to Brighton station; or

to London Gatwick airport > main line train to Brighton station.

From overseas by train:

Eurostar to London Waterloo > walk across River Thames by footbridge (or taxi) to Victoria Station > main line train to Brighton station.

From the UK by train:

From London Victoria, the journey is normally 50 minutes, or along the south coast main line.

From Brighton station to the University of Brighton or hotel:

Taxi to your hotel or to the University of Brighton, Grand Parade site (opposite the King and Queen public house); or

by foot from the rail station to the University of Brighton - with station behind you, walk south, towards the sea > at crossroads with clocktower (in the centre of the shopping area) turn left > to the end of the road with war memorial and fountain and Bank of Scotland ranch on the corner > left for 50 metres and past The Royal Pavilion (the architectural foible of The Prince Regent importing mock Moghul to the south coast of England - a wedding cake in brick and mortar (and gold leaf)) > past the statue of Queen Victoria you willfind the King and Queen on your left and the glass-fronted Faculty of Arts and Architecture main building on your right.

From the UK by road:

Coach from London Victoria, or by car via the A23 and M23 (junction 8 on the M25)

From the coach station, keep the sea behind you and walk north past the fountain, memorial, Royal Pavilion, and Queen Victoria statue, as above.

To Brighton by car - at end of M25, follow signposts to Town Centre, past parks and, via one-way system, past St. Peter's church until the Faculty's glass-fronted building appears on your left just as you see The Royal Pavilion and the statue of the royal personage in front of you in the distance. If you reach the Royal Pavilion, on your right, you have gone too far, and must circle back (left and left again, etc.). Parking is by voucher between 9.00 and 18.00 (£1 and £0.5 per hour, depending on parking area), or in commercial car parks, or free by roadside 10 minutes walk from the University. Street parking is free after 18.00. Parking wardens are highly active, unremitting, and operate to a structurally determined and endearing 'attentiveness'.
