The Careers Service has once again teamed up with Beepurple and the University of Brighton Alumni Association to offer University of Brighton graduates the opportunity to take part in a series of events to help improve their employability skills and the chances of securing that dream graduate job.
You can sign up to as many events as you like but be aware that spaces are very limited so book your places as soon as possible! A number of the events require you to pay a fee in advance to confirm your booking.
Below is the programme of events for our 2012 Graduate Summer School.
UltraViolet: Beepurple’s Business Start-Up Course for Graduates
Dates: Monday 11 - Friday 15 June
Time: 10:00-16:00 each day
Fee: £30
Venue: The Creativity Centre, Cockcroft Building, Moulsecoomb Campus
UltraViolet is Beepurple’s Intensive Business Start-Up Course aimed at final years and graduates. Over the course of five days, course attendees will develop their entrepreneurial skills and also learn how to become self-employed and more enterprising – something which they may not have covered during their degree.

Develop Your Career Plan with Brighton Business Psychology Boutique
Date: Saturday 16 June
Time: 9:30-13:30
Fee: £20
Venue: Boardroom, Grand Parade Campus
Are you a graduate of the University of Brighton who needs some help to develop your career plan? Do you need to improve your self-confidence and employability? If the answer is yes and yes then this workshop is for you.
Through the use of a personality assessment, this workshop will help to explore participant’s career choices and how their personality can affect performance during job interviews and recruitment exercises. Individuals will work in small groups with a consultant to ensure that they will have a short and medium term career plan by the end of the session.
This workshop is being run by the Brighton Business Psychology Boutique (b²pb), in association with the Careers Service and the Brighton Graduate Association. The b2pb team are experienced Business Psychologists who have been involved in the design and delivery of many assessment and selection processes, as well as having wide-ranging experience of coaching and training graduate audiences around career choices.
This course is free to attend but we are asking for a £20 contribution towards the personality assessment.

Using Social Media to Find a Job

Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn.....you probably already use social media to catch up with your peers, arrange a night out or stalk old school friends, but are you using it effectively for finding a job?
Join the Careers Centre's information team for strategies, tips and examples of how the use of social media can help you find that dream job. The presentation will cover social media etiquette, networking techniques and how each tool can help you get noticed by prospective employers.

Summer Virtual Careers & Jobs Fair

The University of Brighton and the University of Sussex are holding a Virtual Careers Fair for our graduating students this summer.
This online only fair will be a fantastic opportunity for you to access a wide range of local, regional and national employers who are seeking to recruit you.

'Transform Your Life' Employability Workshops: 3-day course
Dates: 10 -12 September, Brighton and 19-21 September, Hastings
Time: 9:30-15:30 each day
Deposit: £20 (refundable following attendance on all 3 days)

We’re offering 20 places on the 3-day employability workshop: ‘Transform Your Life’.
The ‘Transform your life’ workshop is designed to improve your skills, motivation and confidence in order to get the job you want at your first interview.
By the end of the workshop you will know:
1. How to avoid the 7 sins of graduate unemployment
2. How to tap into the unadvertised job market to make your job hunt more successful
3. How to build rapport and be at your best at interviews
4. How to fine tune your verbal and non-verbal communication skills for use in your application
5. The essential strategies to develop your personal and professional goals.
