Students and graduates from Broadcast Media courses at University of Brighton’s Hastings Campus have been successful in securing a range of job offers following recent work placements.
After a placement on Neal Jordan’s film Byzantium, made on location in Hastings last year, Lorena Wright, who graduated in June with an FdA in Television Production, spent the summer working as an assistant director on the feature film Diana starring Naomi Watts. She is now an assistant to the producer of a film, currently in production, starring Tom Cruise. Lorena is joined on the team by FdA TV Production graduate, and now production assistant, Luke Fuller and Dan Worth FdA and BA(Hons) Broadcast Media Graduate who is working as a runner. Dan worked in a similar role on The World’s End with Edgar Wright following a placement on Downton Abbey last year.
Justin Windsor, a TV Production graduate secured a highly-coveted internship with Quicksliver Media and is now working on Channel 4’s Unreported World.
Other students secured roles working on ITV’s Britain’s Got Talent, Dancing on Ice, Loose Women and BBC 1’s Holby City as well as with a range of film and television production companies, including Back to Back, Sony’s Silver River and Envy Post Production.
Kiril Isajev FdA Broadcast Media Graduate 2012 spent his work placement with CTV Outside Broadcast and was employed as a camera assistant on a number of multi-camera studio and outside broadcast productions. He has returned to the Hastings Campus to study BA(Hons) in Broadcast Media and spends his weekends working as a camera assistant.
Industry placements are a key feature of Broadcast Media courses at Hastings and give students the opportunity to build real-world experience, confidence and contacts in the industry.
The various courses equip students with practical experience enabling them to explore the academic aspects of media studies. Successful graduates have the professional skills needed to secure a first job in the industry, and the scope to develop and progress quickly in their chosen area.
