Published May 2011
Congratulations to Joel Samuels, Broadcast Media student at the Hastings campus, who has received one of the Brighton Students’ Union Excellence Awards.
2011 is the first year these awards have been offered. They celebrate the dedication of student course reps and staff who make the University of Brighton such a great place to be.
Students were asked to nominate people who had made a real difference to their university experience. More than 450 nominations were received. Winners were decided by a panel of students, university and union staff who assessed the nominations.
Outstanding Contribution to Student Life Award
Joel's nominations included:
‘Joel has been working nonstop on BURST, to put a team together to carry out station duties, reporting on worthy news stories and events and putting the Hastings campus on the map. He is passionate about Hastings and making it fun to make radio and tv programs for students.’
‘He has a lot of passion for making BURST, the official Brighton university radio station and inspires the rest of us at the station with ideas and practical solutions to making programs.’
‘He has been working hard for nearly two years to put Hastings on the map, and although this is often hard work Joel continues to explore new ideas and make things happen. We wouldn't have a radio station without his inspiration and drive.’
‘He is always organising teams to cover events that can be used for the SU, making TV and radio programmes. This takes a lot of time and effort and often comes across challenges and has the ability to solve them. He is always building new relationships outside of the university bringing interest to the station and the university.’
