Additional library information for University of Brighton staff is available on the Hastings staff area of Studentcentral.
Resources
Our aim is to have appropriate, relevant, up-to-date resources for all subject areas. Please help us to do this by:

Providing us with any reading lists for your courses in advance. We can check them and obtain any items we do not already hold in stock. Please work with us to ensure items on reading lists are available as quickly as possible.

Letting us know when recommending a book to students. We may be able to purchase additional copies.

Suggesting items for purchase. As well as books, we can obtain journals, videos, CD ROMs and other resources. We can also arrange for off-air recording of useful programmes.
Loan status
In many cases, multiple copies of the recommended textbooks will be added, and are usually designated "7-day loans" to ensure they can be borrowed by more students. Copies can also be designated as a “reference only” or as Desk loan - please discuss with us if you feel this is necessary.
Magazines and Journals
We subscribe to a small number of magazines and journals. As our budget and space is limited, online journals are preferred to print. These should be ordered via your appropriate school due to licensing issues.
Audio-visual items
Please order audio-visual items should be ordered well in advance, as they often take a long time to arrive. You can ask library staff to record TV programmes onto DVD for library stock, as long as you request them before they go out live. Please note that we do not have a licence for recording Open University programmes.
Registration
We will issue you with a Staff unicard and a building Access card. The unicard will be your card for borrowing items and the Access card will control your access to the academic office(s) and Havelock Road building. If you lose either of these cards, please report it to the library staff as soon as possible. Replacement cards can be issued but please note that a charge of £10 for unicards and £5 for Access cards will be made.
Borrowing
You will need your unicard in order to borrow items from the Library. Currently staff are allowed to borrow up to 20 items.
