Accommodation

If you're living away from home, it's important to find a place you're happy with during your studies.

If you have accepted an offer of a place at the University of Brighton in Hastings, you will be sent an accommodation handbook that covers all the details of finding a home. There are a range of further ways in which we can help you through the accommodation process.

We are pleased to announce that the 2012 entry Finding a Home Guide is now available to view online here:

Finding a Home Guide

In April we will begin to invite students holding academic offers to apply for a university residence place. In tandem these applicants will receive a copy of the Finding a Home Guide by post.

The deadlines for receipt of completed university residence applications this year are:

Private sector accommodation in Hastings

If you prefer to look for accommodation in the private sector, the university's accommodation database www.yourstudentpad.co.uk lists details of local properties. You can also use the message boards to chat with other students who are coming to study at the University of Brighton.

I'd like to share with other students. How do I meet them?

  • We have a list of all first year students who are looking for rented accommodation. You can contact each other and get into groups to find houses together.
  • We also hold a house-hunting event in August/September (see below) where you can look around properties and meet other students who are looking to share rented accommodation.
  • We open a Facebook page where you can contact other students looking for accommodation in Hastings.

Facebook

Our Facebook page enables you to network with other students and find potential housemates. If your friend request is accepted you will be able to;

https://www.facebook.com/uni.brighton.accommodation

  • View comments posted by other students and respond to them
  • Access links to other University-related pages and information
  • See other friends of our page
  • Receive invitations to events, such as any House-hunting events.

Since setting up the Facebook page in 2009 we have found it one of the most effective ways for our new students to network. To find us, type 'Hastings accommodation' in the search box on your Facebook account. Click 'Add as a friend' then 'Add a personal message' to provide us with your full name, student number and date of birth.

House-hunting event

Subject to demand we hold a house-hunting event before the start of each academic year. This enables you to:

  • Meet our friendly accommodation team
  • Meet other new students
  • Ask for advice on finding accommodation in Hastings
  • Get out and about in Hastings to view properties
