Becki Adams

BA Joint Honours English Literature and Education, 2011

We caught up with Becki in January 2012

What course did you study, and when did you graduate?

I studied the BA Joint Honours English Literature and Education, class of 2011.

Where have you been working since graduating?

I have been on the University of Brighton’s PGCE Secondary English Course since graduating and working on placement in a local secondary school as part of this.

Can you describe whether your ambitions changed as a result of studying here, and how?

My ambition has always been to be a teacher so this didn't really change. Experiencing the local community and learning about the local educational practices gave me an insight into the area.

Do you feel that you have approached your career/future differently as a result of studying here?

Not particularly, but it certainly gave me an insight into what I wanted to do in Teaching.

Were there any staff who particularly inspire you, and why?

Jane Cawdell inspired my interest in Education studies and fuelled my passion for teaching.

Katy Shaw was a huge inspiration in following my love of English, supporting me through my dissertation and offering advice and guidance with my PGCE Application.

Do you feel that either the studying itself or the eventual degree from the University of Brighton in Hastings may change your life, and why?

It allowed me to progress in my career and realise that I have the capability of succeeding in teaching, developing my practice thanks to the skills and knowledge learnt on the degree.
