Our masters-level course offers advanced international training on breastfeeding and related topics, and is held in collaboration with WHO, UNICEF and the Infant Feeding Consortium.
It is designed for senior health professionals who lead, coordinate or commission work on infant feeding, teach others or need to be informed and up-to-date so they can give strategic direction on breastfeeding and infant nutrition.
The course aims to strengthen participants’ capacity to advocate for investment in infant feeding, and to take an active role in the broad spectrum of activities required to protect, promote and support optimal infant feeding practices, from programme planning to resolving mastitis.
Typically participants include paediatricians, midwifery lecturers, directors of primary care, infant feeding coordinators, health and nutrition technical advisers from international organisations and NGOs, and public health specialists.
The course takes a global perspective and past participants have found it extremely useful whatever part of the world they come from. Teaching includes regional group work and comparative learning techniques to gain maximum educational advantage from the range of backgrounds and experiences present in the group.
The course is divided in two parts which can be taken together (recommended) or separately:
Part 1: Infant Feeding: Clinical Management and Public Health Evidence
– 2 weeks
Part 2: Addressing Challenges to Optimal Practice and Implementation
– 3 themed days which can be attended as single study days.
