Our approach to interprofessional education
Interprofessional education related to PRACTICE in acute, intermediate and community settings
We are concerned to provide interprofessional education opportunities related to PRACTICE in acute, intermediate and community settings. Examples of learning together include:
- Occupational therapy, medical and social work students learning together about long term conditions such as Parkinson's disease
- Social work and medical students learning together about working together in teams and the physical abuse of children
- Podiatry and medical students learn together as part of their musculoskeletal rotation podiatry and physiotherapy students learn research methods and health psychology together
- Nursing, occupational therapy, physiotherapy and social work students join together with student teachers, youth workers and classroom assistants for a day conference on integrated children's teams
Involving patients, service users and carers as part of the learning team and in care provided interprofessionally
We believe in involving the service user/ patient as part of the team in interprofessional practice, considering the patient or user to be an expert by experience. The user/ patient is similarly an educator in interprofessional learning sessions, enabling students to develop an understanding of patient/user needs and experiences.
Interprofessional perspectives and learning in relation to professional codes, values and ethics, law, consent, confidentiality, whistle blowing.
Leadership, management and teamwork in interprofessional practice
We offer a range of modules and courses for qualified practitioners which are taught on an interprofessional basis as part of the faculty's Graduate Programme in Health and Social Sciences.
