Research study

The faculty offers a number of research study options at MPhil, PhD and professional doctorate level through the university's Doctoral College.

Postgraduate research student supervision is based within each school, and this is complemented by the staff and services of the Doctoral College at each campus centre to provide a motivating and stimulating environment in which to develop knowledge of research practices and skills; to ensure students and supervisors receive the highest level of support; to exchange the best of practices; and to foster cross-disciplinary dialogue.

Each campus centre provides:

  • Dedicated staff, including Directors of Postgraduate Studies who will champion academic excellence and Research Administrators who will provide high quality administrative support
  • Meeting rooms, hot desk spaces, printing and internet facilities
  • Progression monitoring
  • Mentoring in research skills, career development and publication through the research development framework
  • A lively seminar series and workshops related to methodology and ethics training
  • The opportunity to meet with other researchers and doctoral students in a social and academic space
  • Access into the University Research Training Framework
  • Access to high quality supervision

Applications for research degrees are made direct to the university through the Doctoral College.

The Director of Postgraduate Studies for your subject area will be happy to offer advice on research proposals before a formal application is made.
